NxStage "Short Daily" DialysisTraining
Now In The Rubin Dialysis Centers

The home training staff of the Hortense and Louis Rubin Dialysis Center, Inc. began training their first patients in September on this new, user friendly home dialysis machine. Working directly with the training staff from NxStage in our Clifton Park and Saratoga centers, Rubin staff is excited to be learning this short, daily therapy option and the benefits it provides for patient home use.

The simple, modular design and weight of only 70 pounds makes this unit more convenient if it needs to be moved around the house or to be transported while traveling. Presently the NxStage System One uses dialysate bags that are attached to the top of the machine for each treatment. This eliminates the need for a complete Reverse Osmosis water treatment system and large volumes of water are not required. The "drop-in cartridge" and automated set up make it a quicker, more user friendly treatment option than other equipment previously offered for home use.

This "at-home dialysis" modality allows the patient, and a "significant other", to run treatments when it is most convenient to their schedules. (A "helper" is required to assist the patient in the home.) Typically, the number of treatments prescribed by the Nephrologists is 6 days a week. While this machine and the short daily dialysis regimen is not for every patient, we believe a large number of patients will benefit from being fully trained and being more involved in their dialysis care at home. The time and effort to set up and take down this equipment after a 2 _ to 4 hour treatment is much less than is required for outpatient equipment in the centers.
